Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, 1:00pm EDT: Business as Usual (Hurricane Matthew)

Status:   Business as usual.

Message:  Webber International University is carefully monitoring the approach of Hurricane Matthew. The campus emergency committee has been activated and is meeting as necessary.

While Webber is well inland, this is a powerful storm whose track is unpredictable. We are expecting and have prepared for strong winds and torrential rain on Thursday.

While each person is the ultimate judge of his or her own safety (especially when this involves road conditions in their local area), it is the longstanding policy of Webber International University to NOT require students to leave the campus in the event of hazardous weather. We have taken normal and prudent precautions – brought in objects which could become airborne, stocked up on bottled water and cooking gas, scheduled extra security, issued flashlights to resident assistants, etc.  In the spirit of “better safe than sorry” we urge employees and students who do not live on campus to do likewise.

At this point neither classes nor events or activities have been cancelled… we are at “business as usual” status and classes and activities are continuing as scheduled. We will, however, continue to monitor the storm and will make adjustments as seem prudent.

A reminder that texting Webber to 888777 subscribes you to our emergency text notification system. Thank you for visiting http://www.WebberEmergency.com, the official emergency notification system of Webber International University.
