Friday, October 7th, 2016 classes cancelled

Status:   All Friday, October 7th, 2016 classes have been CANCELLED

Message:  All classes for Friday, October 7th, 2016 have been cancelled.  Wednesday, October 5th classes and Thursday, October 6th classes, including evening classes, will meet as normal.

While our primary concern is road conditions making travel to and from campus hazardous on Friday morning, we understand that some students will choose to go home for the weekend; resident students are NOT required to leave campus.  We have stocked up on water, food, and cooking gas, have batteries and flashlights ready, and extra staff have been called in. Meals will be served.  Activities will be planned.  Staff will be on hand for safety and security.  We assume resident students are staying unless they tell us otherwise… if you are a resident student who will not be staying on campus any night between tonight, October 5th and Sunday October 9th, please advise Student Life so that, after the storm passes, we do not think you are unaccounted for.

There are no scheduled home games until Saturday, October 8th.  We are expecting these games to be played as scheduled.  Athletes should check with their coaches regarding practices and other expectations.

Employees directly charged with the wellbeing, safety, or security of students or the facility should report to work on Friday. Others should not. Please check with your immediate superior to determine whether or not you should report to work on Friday.

We are anticipating opening as normal on Saturday, October 8th.

The campus emergency team participated in a Polk County Emergency Operations Center briefing at noon today. Based on all available information, we are expecting weather to deteriorate beginning very early Friday, October 7th with intermittent tropical force winds throughout the day.  While we have sandbagged low lying areas, significant rain is not expected.  But, things can and do change rapidly… you are always the ultimate decision maker for matters involving your personal safety.
