Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 3:00pm EDT:  Power restored!  Webber reopens at 5:00am EDT Thursday, September 14, 2017.  While there was damage — lots of it — there’s nothing that keeps us from reopening.  We have been deeply blessed.

FAQ’s

1) I evacuated and cannot get to class tomorrow?  What do I do?

Bring back proof that you were out of town; 2) get back as quickly as you reasonably can; and 3) see the Academic Dean upon arrival.  Here’s the deal… if you were out of town and you get back as quickly as you reasonably can, everything will be just fine; if you’re not trying your best under  the circumstances, you’ll have difficulties. We’re fair and reasonable people, many of whom don’t yet have power at our own homes.  Evacuation = fine.  Vacation = not fine.  Doing your best = fine.  Taking advantage = not fine.

2) What about late work?

Again, the key here is reasonable.  The Academic Dean will have a meeting with professors and ask them to make reasonable accommodations.  If you’re doing the best you can under the circumstances, it won’t be a problem; if you’re not, well, there may be.   And, please don’t look for exceptions for work due before we closed… there are lots of people with real problems outside of their control.

3) I’m an employee who just cannot get back.

Again, same thing as switch students.  Reasonable = okay.  Unreasonable = problem.  Speak to your immediate supervisor (and for most of you that’s not the President) ASAP.

4) I’ve got an emergency.  I need…

Please discuss your situation with a senior employee.  Can we cash a check for you?  Maybe.  Can we loan you a cooler?  Maybe.  Can we give you ice?  If we have it.  Can we sell you water at our cost?  If we have some left over.  Can we find an air conditioned place for you to sleep?  Best we can.  Need a sandwich?  We can likely fix you up.  We’re family, and we pull together.  Talk to a senior employee and we’ll do our best.

5) Games?  Practices.

Speak with your coach.

    • Polk County has a midnight to 5am curfew which they strictly enforce. My understanding is that road conditions vary a great deal… from just fine to completely flooded. We’ve had folks make it from Orlando, Sebring, and Tampa, but I have no reports from any further out than that.

    • We’ve got hot showers and cold places to hang out, and are glad to hook you up with a hot meal and/or cold drink. We’ve got lots of folks hanging out here until their power gets turned back on.
