Wednesday, September 13, 2017 3:00pm EDT: Power restored! Webber reopens at 5:00am EDT Thursday, September 14th, 2017!

Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 3:00pm EDT:  Power restored!  Webber reopens at 5:00am EDT Thursday, September 14, 2017.  While there was damage — lots of it — there’s nothing that keeps us from reopening.  We have been deeply blessed.

FAQ’s

1) I evacuated and cannot get to class tomorrow?  What do I do?

Bring back proof that you were out of town; 2) get back as quickly as you reasonably can; and 3) see the Academic Dean upon arrival.  Here’s the deal… if you were out of town and you get back as quickly as you reasonably can, everything will be just fine; if you’re not trying your best under  the circumstances, you’ll have difficulties. We’re fair and reasonable people, many of whom don’t yet have power at our own homes.  Evacuation = fine.  Vacation = not fine.  Doing your best = fine.  Taking advantage = not fine.

2) What about late work?

Again, the key here is reasonable.  The Academic Dean will have a meeting with professors and ask them to make reasonable accommodations.  If you’re doing the best you can under the circumstances, it won’t be a problem; if you’re not, well, there may be.   And, please don’t look for exceptions for work due before we closed… there are lots of people with real problems outside of their control.

3) I’m an employee who just cannot get back.

Again, same thing as switch students.  Reasonable = okay.  Unreasonable = problem.  Speak to your immediate supervisor (and for most of you that’s not the President) ASAP.

4) I’ve got an emergency.  I need…

Please discuss your situation with a senior employee.  Can we cash a check for you?  Maybe.  Can we loan you a cooler?  Maybe.  Can we give you ice?  If we have it.  Can we sell you water at our cost?  If we have some left over.  Can we find an air conditioned place for you to sleep?  Best we can.  Need a sandwich?  We can likely fix you up.  We’re family, and we pull together.  Talk to a senior employee and we’ll do our best.

5) Games?  Practices.

Speak with your coach.

Monday September 11 2017 2:00pm: everyone safe; power out; anticipated reopening Thursday September 14, 2017

Status: Safe; No Power; Anticipated Opening Thursday September 14, 2017

First things first… while the storm took a path nobody predicted and we took a direct hit, everyone who stayed with us is safe. We are richly blessed.

But, like most everyone else here, we have no power. At the 12 noon County EOC briefing power executives could not speculate about when power might return. We have food, water, and staff on hand, but we do not have power.

We are expecting to reopen on Thursday September 14, if we have power. Please check back for updates. It is possible that late week games will be cancelled if we do not have power Check back for updates.

FAQs

1) Why can I not get in touch with you or my student? We have no power so our VOIP phones do not work. Lots of cell towers were damaged. The ones working are overloaded.

2) http://www.WebberEmergency.com is not responding. Try again. The site gets busy. And, data in Florida is overloaded.

3) What if I do not have time to get back after definite reopening is announced? Get back as soon as you safely and reasonably can thereafter. Bring documentation (receipt, newspaper, ticket) that you were out of town. See Academic Dean upon arrival.

4) Where is more recent information? This is as up to date as it gets. As soon as we know something we post it here first.

Monday, September 11, 2017 500am EDT: Everyone On Campus Safe

Monday, September 11, 2017, 500 am EDT:  The eye has passed, we are through the worst,    and everyone on campus is safe.

It is still dark, we have no power, and there are tropical storm force winds.  So damage assessment and reopening plans have not begun.  But we are very blessed:  everyone is safe.

Further announcements here as information becomes available.
